Every number on a clock face is a 5 times table answer. The 7 means 35 minutes, the 9 means 45. A child who can read a clock already knows most of this table.
The 5 times table has the clearest pattern of them all: every single answer ends in 5 or 0, alternating the whole way down. Children usually spot it themselves within a minute, and a pattern you discover is a pattern you remember.

5 × 8: work out 10 × 8 = 80, then halve it to get 40. Five is half of ten, so this works every time.
5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 — the last digit flips between 5 and 0. If you multiply an odd number by 5 the answer ends in 5; an even number gives you a 0.
Knowing 5 × 7 is one thing; spotting that a question needs 5 × 7 is another. Work these out on paper first, then check.
