Why games beat drilling
A grid makes gaps impossible to hide. Most children can fill three quarters of it quickly and then stall in the same few squares every time — and those squares are the entire homework.

What is a multiplication grid?
It is a square with numbers along the top and down the side, where each cell holds the product of its row and column. Filling one in is the fastest way to check every fact you know at once.
How long should the full grid take?
With all twelve tables and a width of twelve, under four minutes is a good time for a child who knows their tables, and under two and a half minutes is very quick. The number itself matters less than watching it come down week by week.
